Background
The
College of Humanities is one of the fastest-growing academic units at Werabe
University. Officially established in January 2021 with two undergraduate
programs. The College has rapidly expanded in response to the increasing demand
for market-relevant education in Ethiopia. Currently, it offers five
undergraduate and two postgraduate programs, marking a significant academic
transformation within the University.
The
College serves over 560 students across regular, weekend, and summer programs.
The study of the humanities seeks to understand what it means to be human,
helping us interpret, express, and appreciate the most admirable aspects of
human experience and creativity.
Rooted
in a rich tradition of inquiry, the College draws on the intellectual legacies
of the Classical World, Medieval Period, Renaissance, Enlightenment, and
Industrial Era, extending into today’s global society. It is committed to
advancing the humanities within the Ethiopian context through teaching,
research, and community service, aspiring to become a leading center for
humanities scholarship—both nationally and internationally.
