About the Department

The Department of Sociology, established in September, 2021 G.C. under the College of Social Sciences. Its establishment was responsive to the context of the undergoing massive Socioeconomic development process, there is a need for trained manpower skilled with Sociological knowledge, approaches and theories; those who can inform and usefully guide Societal development endeavors. The dynamics and complexity of human social behavior, group structure, social institutions and organizations, patterns of intra- and inter-personal, group and community relationships are crucial in human development processes. In this age of globalization, which manifests itself in Social, cultural, economic, political and spiritual transformation arena, the role of Sociological insights becomes more important.

With 11 dedicated academic staff members and 91 active students, we have been proud to maintain the highest national exam pass rate in the last two consecutive years since 2024. Department of Sociology remains a center of academic excellence, actively involved in conveying quality teaching and learning, making proficient and accountable graduates, conducting problem-solving research, and delivering impactful community services. The department has successfully produced 55 undergraduate graduates who are both competent and qualified.

Vision

This BA program in Sociology is opened with the vision of having a sociologically literate graduates that employs sociological knowledge in understanding and appreciating all social processes in order to make good out of them while making development plans and policy decisions.

Mission

The mission of this curriculum is to provide sociology BA level education at the highest standards introducing students to sociological knowledge and methods through high-quality classroom instruction, independent student research, and practical learning opportunities.
