Forestry and Saemaul Sustainable Development

About the Department

The Department of Forestry and Saemaul Sustainable Development is dedicated to shaping future leaders who can drive Ethiopia’s green transformation through science, innovation, and community empowerment. Established in partnership with Yeungnam University, Republic of Korea, the department integrates modern forestry education with the principles of the Saemaul Undong (New Village) Movement emphasizing self-help, diligence, and cooperation.

Our program equips students with both technical forestry expertise and practical community development skills to promote environmental restoration, sustainable natural resource management, and rural transformation. Through a balance of classroom learning, field practice, and international collaboration, we prepare graduates to become catalysts for ecological and socioeconomic progress in Ethiopia and beyond.
