The Department of Plant Science is one of the pioneers departments in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resource. It was established in 2018. The Department of Plant Science is a cornerstone of the university, with a rich history that dates back to its foundational years. It has played a key role in shaping the academic and research landscape in the field of Plant Science. The department offers an extensive curriculum and research opportunities in diverse areas of plant sciences, including Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding, Plant Entomology, Crop production and Soil fertility. The department’s academic offerings cater to undergraduate students, providing a comprehensive educational experience in Plant Science. The department has 14 Staff members, one PhD, Twelve MSc holders and one Assistant lecturer. Fourteen staff members are pursuing undergraduate Students in various disciplines.

 Objectives

The goal of the department is to produce high level skilled Plant science students who will be competitive, able to conduct demand driven research and development activities in the area of plant sciences and disseminating research results through well-coordinated extension program.

Department of Plant Science aspires to be one of the leading departments in college of Agriculture and Natural Resource and center of excellence in the area of low-land and Highland crops in Central Ethiopia by 2022 E.C and to create a world where innovative plant research leads to sustainable agricultural systems, resilient ecosystems, and improved  human health. This vision encompasses the development of new technologies and practices that maximize crop yield while minimizing environmental impact.
