About the Department

The Department of Chemistry at Werabe University was established in September 2017 under the College of Natural and Computational Science. Since its founding, the Department has demonstrated substantial progress across its core mandates: teaching, research, and community engagement.

The Department maintains a faculty of 23 members who possess expertise at the frontier level of research. This diverse expertise provides the scope for conducting original research that fosters meaningful academic and industrial interactions.

The primary academic offering is a four-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Program in Chemistry. The core goal of the Department is to advance the field of chemistry and pursue use-inspired research in critical emerging areas, including energy, environment, sustainable chemistry, and health. Furthermore, the program is designed to cultivate critical thinking among students to ensure a deep theoretical understanding of the chemical sciences.

The Department operates with a commitment to preparing graduates who are knowledgeable, skilled, and attitudinally mature. Our strategic activities are focused on:

  1. Producing qualified graduate chemists.
  2. Promoting and enhancing research with a focus on knowledge and technology transfer.
  3. Designing and providing community and consultancy services that align with the priority needs of the country and the region.

Significantly, the Department's graduates have secured placements in academia, research institutions, chemical industries, and pharmaceutical companies, reflecting the high quality of the educational foundation provided.
