The Department of Statistics was established in 2018/19 academic year, organized under the College of Natural and Computational Sciences. With the objective of providing statistical trainings, research and consultancy services, it is one of the fast growing department of the university. The department now has one program which is BSc degree in Statistics. The department has competent staff members and resources.

Objectives of the Statistics Program

General Objective

The main objective of the Statistics program is to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in statistical science and software that enable them to collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate data effectively to support decision-making and research across various fields.

Specific Objectives

 • To build practical competencies in applying statistical methods to real-world problems using modern tools and technologies.

• To enhance research skills for designing, conducting, and analyzing statistical studies in academic, scientific, and professional settings.

• To promote ethical and responsible data use by instilling principles of data privacy, transparency, and scientific integrity.

• To cultivate effective communication skills for presenting statistical results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• To prepare students for diverse career paths in government, industry, education, health, agriculture, business, and data science.

• To foster lifelong learning and adaptability in response to evolving statistical techniques and data driven innovations.

• To develop students’ proficiency in the use of modern statistical software packages such as R, SPSS, STATA, SAS, and Python for data management, analysis, visualization, and reporting, thereby enhancing their practical skills and readiness for real-world data-driven environments.
