Continuous Professional
Development (CPD)
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a range of learning
activities through which health professionals maintain and develop their skills
throughout their careers. This ensures they retain the capacity to practice
safely, effectively, and legally within their evolving scope of practice.
Goal of CPD
The goal of CPD is to maintain and develop the competencies of
health professionals to improve the quality of health services.
Features of CPD
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a formal process
for health professionals to maintain, update, and develop their knowledge,
skills, and attitudes in response to public health service needs. It involves
education and training that begins after basic or postgraduate training. CPD
aims to maintain and develop competencies essential for meeting changing
patient and healthcare system needs, while also responding to scientific
development challenges. It should occur when there is a clear need, learning is
based on identified needs, and follow-up is provided.
