Werabe University (WRU) was established on November 4, 2015 G.C. in accordance with the Council of Ministers Regulation No. 358/2015. The foundation stone was officially laid on December 8, 2014 G.C. by the late Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn. The university is located in Werabe town, Silte Zone, within the Central Ethiopia Region, approximately 172 kilometers from Addis Ababa. The main campus covers an area of 137 hectares.

WRU strives to produce skilled and disciplined graduates, generate demand-driven research outputs, and deliver multifaceted community services. The university aspires to become one of Ethiopia’s top five comprehensive universities by 2022 E.C.

Since enrolling its first cohort of 1,500 students in fourteen departments under four colleges, Werabe University has rapidly expanded. Currently, it serves more than 10,000 students in regular and continuing education programs. These students are enrolled in 49 undergraduate programs and 18 postgraduate programs organized under:

• Seven Colleges
• Two Schools (Law; Education & Behavioral Science)

Over six rounds of graduation ceremonies, more than 9,000 students have successfully completed their studies.

WRU continues to strengthen its global engagement and partnerships while maintaining its core pillars of teaching-learning, research, and community service.
