Background of the Directorate
The Directorate of Library Service was established to
support Werabe University's academic, research, technology transfer, and
community service missions. Initially starting as a modest print collection, it
has evolved into a modern information hub, seamlessly integrating physical and
digital services.
Over time, the Directorate has adopted technological
advancements, such as an Integrated Library System, and developed an
Institutional Repository to preserve and provide access to thesis, research
outputs, and local heritage materials.
As a vital resource for students, staff, and researchers,
the Directorate promotes academic excellence through diverse resources (books,
e-journals, and multimedia), specialized collections, ICT facilities, and
comprehensive research support. It actively fosters teaching and learning via
information literacy programs, reference services, and user education, ensuring
equitable access to knowledge in all formats.
Looking forward, the Directorate is committed to expanding
digital services, incorporating open-access resources, and deploying advanced
research tools. It also aims to address challenges such as budget constraints
and technological limitations through strategic planning and partnerships. The
goal is to create an inclusive, innovative, and user-centered library that
meets the evolving needs of the university while preserving and celebrating
Ethiopia's intellectual and cultural legacy.
