Central Ethiopia Rift Valley Geopark Evaluation Team Visits Werabe University

July 23, 2026--The Central Ethiopia Rift Valley Geopark Evaluation Team paid a visit to the laboratories and data center of Werabe University as part of its ongoing evaluation mission.

During the visit, Dr. Ing. Tewfik Jemal, President of Werabe University, presented an overview of the University's journey and achievements since its establishment. He explained that the University currently offers 49 undergraduate and 17 postgraduate programs, serving thousands of students across various disciplines.

Dr. Ing. Tewfik emphasized that tourism is one of the University's key focus areas and highlighted its commitment to supporting the Central Ethiopia Rift Valley Geopark initiative. He reaffirmed that Werabe University will continue working closely with partners to promote the sustainable development and international recognition of the Geopark.

Mr. Anwar Ahmed (Assistant Professor), Vice President for Academic Affairs, Research, Technology Transfer, and Community Engagement, noted that the University is contributing to the growth of the tourism sector through quality education, research, innovation, and community engagement. He stressed the importance of strong partnerships in unlocking the region's tourism potential and creating lasting socio-economic benefits.

Members of the evaluation team commended Werabe University for its active collaboration, valuable contributions to the Geopark initiative, and the warm hospitality they received during their visit. They expressed their appreciation for the University's dedication to advancing tourism and sustainable development in the region.
